Shayla Johnson is a Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Intern completing her Master of Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at Lamar University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Texas and is supervised by Jane Kong, LPC-S.
Shayla believes that everyone deserves a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where they feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change. She recognizes that life’s challenges can leave individuals, couples, and families feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about the future. Her goal is to help clients identify their strengths, build healthier relationships, and develop practical tools that foster resilience and emotional well-being.
As a systemic therapist-in-training, Shayla understands that people do not exist in isolation and that relationships, family dynamics, culture, and life experiences all influence mental health. She integrates evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique goals and needs.
Shayla enjoys working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families navigating concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship difficulties, family conflict, communication challenges, self-esteem, and emotional regulation. She is passionate about helping clients strengthen connections, improve communication, and build healthier patterns within their relationships.
Shayla is committed to providing culturally responsive, compassionate care and values creating an environment where clients of all backgrounds feel respected, accepted, and supported throughout their counseling journey.
