Kayla Gignac, Graduate Student Intern Supervised by Jane Kong LPC-S

Kayla is a graduate-level student enrolled in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program at Grand Canyon University, supervised by Jane Kong, LPC-S. Kayla earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Forensic Sciences in 2017 from Texas Tech University, her Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Forensic Psychology in 2019 from Grand Canyon University, and is expected to graduate from her current master’s program in February 2026.
Kayla is a dedicated mental health professional with an extensive background in crisis intervention and response, forensic psychology and corrections, therapeutic group facilitation, and inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization mental health services. Kayla has worked in diverse settings, including inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization treatment hospitals, correctional facilities, community mental health centers, non-profits, and crisis hotlines. Additionally, she has worked with diverse populations, including individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, eating disorders, trauma, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking, incarcerated individuals, both adult and juvenile, and individuals under court order. Kayla’s education and professional experience has equipped her to work with children, adolescents, adults, groups, and the LGBTQ+ community. She has experience in de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, culturally sensitive care, and evidence-based interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
At Meltzer Counseling, Kayla is committed to providing compassionate support to individuals navigating a wide range of mental health challenges, such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and trauma. She is passionate about advocacy, particularly for underserved populations, individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), and victims of crime. In addition to utilizing CBT, DBT, and ACT skills, Kayla employs a person-centered approach using mindfulness and trauma-informed techniques. Through her work, she aims to empower individuals on their path to healing.
